Indrajit and Lakshmana: War-Boasts, Rebuke, and the Clash

vibhīṣaṇavacaḥ śrutvā rāvaṇiḥ krodhamūrchitaḥ | abravīt paruṣaṃ vākyaṃ vegenābhyutpapāta ca || 6.88.1 ||
Hearing Vibheeshana's words, Indrajith was deluded with fury, spoke harshly and advanced.
The verse warns that uncontrolled anger (krodha) clouds discernment and leads to harsh speech and rash action—contrary to dharmic self-mastery.
After hearing Vibhīṣaṇa, Indrajit becomes enraged, responds sharply, and charges toward confrontation.
By contrast (implicitly), the virtue emphasized is restraint; Indrajit’s lack of it becomes the lesson.
