Ravana’s Chariot, Portents, and Rama–Matali Instructions
जघनेभ्यःस्फुलिङ्गांश्चनेत्रेभ्योऽश्रूणिसन्ततम् ।।।।मुमुचुस्तस्यतुरगास्तुल्यमग्नि च वारि च ।
jaghanebhyaḥ sphuliṅgāṃś ca netrebhyo 'śrūṇi santatam |
mumucus tasya turagās tulyam agni ca vāri ca ||
ม้าศึกของเขาปล่อยประกายไฟจากส่วนท้ายอยู่เนือง ๆ และน้ำตาจากดวงตาก็ไหลไม่ขาดสาย ประหนึ่งปล่อยทั้งไฟและน้ำออกมาพร้อมกันอย่างเท่าเทียม
His (Ravana's) horses were letting out fire sparks from their hips, tears, water, and fire from their eyes at a time, continuously.
The unnatural mixture of ‘fire and water’ symbolizes inner contradiction: adharma destabilizes even one’s own supports, turning strength into distress.
Rāvaṇa’s chariot-team exhibits bizarre, ominous behavior, adding to the accumulating portents of disaster.
Implied is composure and harmony (sāttvika steadiness). The verse depicts their opposite—agitation and imbalance—around the adharmic side.
