खररामयुद्धम् — The Battle of Khara and Rama
Aranya Kanda, Sarga 28
स दर्शनीयो बहुधा विकीर्णः काञ्चनध्वजः।जगाम धरणीं सूर्यो देवतानामिवाज्ञया।।।।
sa darśanīyo bahudhā vikīrṇaḥ kāñcana-dhvajaḥ |
jagāma dharaṇīṃ sūryo devatānām ivājñayā ||
ธงทองอันงดงามนั้น เมื่อแตกกระจายเป็นเสี่ยง ๆ ก็ร่วงลงสู่พื้นดิน—ประหนึ่งพระอาทิตย์เสด็จลงสู่แผ่นดินตามบัญชาของเหล่าเทวะ
The beautiful, golden flag post, broken into several pieces, fell down on earth.It appeared as if the Sun had come down to earth at the behest of the gods.
The imagery suggests cosmic alignment with righteousness: when adharma’s symbols fall, it is as though the moral order (deva-ājñā) supports restoration of dharma.
After Rama breaks it, Khara’s golden standard falls to the ground in scattered pieces, dramatically signaling a turning point in the battle.
Rama’s decisive effectiveness: his action visibly diminishes the enemy’s prestige and momentum.
