Subāhu

Concept: Commitment to dharma and puṇya culminates in worship of Vāsudeva, jagad-yoni (source of the universe).

Application: Make a clear daily saṅkalpa: act dharmically, do at least one deliberate puṇya (charity/service), and offer worship (japa, pūjā, nāma-saṅkīrtana) to Vāsudeva.

Primary Rasa: vira

Secondary Rasa: shanta

Visual Art Cues: {"scene_description":"King Subāhu rises from his seat and places his right hand over his heart in a solemn vow, facing the sage; behind him, a small altar bears a conch, discus emblem, and a lamp, hinting at Vāsudeva worship. In the sky above, a subtle vision of four-armed Vāsudeva appears within a lotus aura, affirming the king’s resolve.","primary_figures":["Subāhu","sage (dvijottama)","Vāsudeva (visionary form)"],"setting":"āśrama courtyard with a simple Vaiṣṇava altar (śaṅkha-cakra symbols), kusa grass, and flowering trees","lighting_mood":"divine radiance","color_palette":["sapphire blue","gold leaf","lotus pink","ivory white","emerald green"],"tanjore_prompt":"Tanjore painting style: Subāhu making a vow before a rishi, a radiant four-armed Vāsudeva appearing in a lotus aura above, heavy gold leaf on halos and ornaments, rich reds and greens in garments, gem-studded jewelry, conch and discus motifs on the altar, ornate arch and lotus border.","pahari_prompt":"Pahari miniature style: elegant vow scene with delicate expressions, Vāsudeva’s soft blue form in a translucent lotus-cloud above, refined brushwork on textiles, gentle forest setting, cool blues and greens with warm gold accents, lyrical naturalism.","kerala_mural_prompt":"Kerala mural style: bold outlined Subāhu and rishi, stylized Vāsudeva vision with prominent eyes and four arms, flat vibrant pigments (yellow-red-green) with sapphire emphasis for the deity, temple-wall composition and lotus border.","pichwai_prompt":"Pichwai cloth painting style: Vāsudeva-centered composition with lotus motifs, deep blue ground, gold highlights, intricate floral borders, conch-disc emblems, peacocks near the margins, Subāhu in devotional posture below the deity’s lotus aura in Nathdwara-inspired ornamentation."}

FAQs

It frames righteousness (dharma) and merit (puṇya) as culminating in devoted worship of Vāsudeva, described as jagad-yoni—the cosmic source—highlighting God-centered devotion as the highest aim.

The verse teaches personal accountability: one should actively commit to dharma and meritorious conduct, not merely profess it, and align one’s actions with worship of the supreme principle.

These honorifics indicate Subāhu is speaking respectfully to a brāhmaṇa or learned sage (likely a narrating ṛṣi within the chapter’s dialogue), addressing him as “best of twice-born” and “sage.”
