भक्ष्यं भोज्यं पेयलेह्यं चोष्यं खाद्यं च भूपते । तासां भेदाः षडंगाश्च मधुराद्याश्च षड्गुणाः

bhakṣyaṃ bhojyaṃ peyalehyaṃ coṣyaṃ khādyaṃ ca bhūpate | tāsāṃ bhedāḥ ṣaḍaṃgāśca madhurādyāśca ṣaḍguṇāḥ

ข้าแต่พระราชา อาหารมีหกประเภท คือ (๑) ภักษยะ—สิ่งที่ต้องเคี้ยว (๒) โภชยะ—สิ่งที่รับประทานเป็นสำรับ (๓) เปยะ—สิ่งที่ดื่ม (๔) เลหยะ—สิ่งที่เลีย (๕) โจษยะ—สิ่งที่ดูด และ (๖) ขาทยะ—สิ่งที่กัดกิน สิ่งเหล่านี้มีหกหมวด และทำนองเดียวกันก็มีรสหกประการ เริ่มด้วยรสหวานเป็นต้น
