Concept: Diversity arises from underlying categories and combinations; discernment (viveka) sees order within variety.

Application: Notice how small choices combine into large outcomes (diet, habits, speech); cultivate moderation and clarity by understanding ‘mixing’ effects rather than acting impulsively.

FAQs

It explains that things differentiate into six types by their inherent distinctions, and that further variety arises when their ‘rasas’ (flavors/essences) combine with one another.

Primarily it indicates taste/flavor, but in Purāṇic Sanskrit it can also suggest an underlying ‘essence’ whose combinations produce diverse experiential qualities.

It highlights that diversity is not only from fixed categories (sixfold division) but also from interaction—mixtures and relationships generating many more outcomes than the base types.
