Unspecified (context-dependent within Adhyaya 28)

Concept: Dīkṣā and long sacrifices demand strict adherence to dharma; adharma within ritual nullifies sanctity and is not the path of the good.

Application: When undertaking any long commitment—spiritual practice, vow, service project—protect integrity: avoid shortcuts, coercion, or ego; purity of means matters as much as the goal.

Primary Rasa: shanta

Secondary Rasa: vira

FAQs

It refers to a long-duration yajña whose observances extend over twelve years, requiring sustained dīkṣā (ritual discipline, vows, and purity) from the performers.

The verse stresses that ritual action is not merely technical; moral conduct is integral to dharma. Unrighteous acts performed under the cover of a sacrifice invalidate its ethical purpose.

True dharma is defined by the conduct of the virtuous: even in ritual contexts, one must not justify wrongdoing—righteous means must match righteous ends.
