Sūta

Concept: No external protector can shield one from karma; yet auspicious karma itself becomes a protector—karma is both the rod and the refuge.

Application: Stop blaming or expecting rescue; instead, cultivate protective causes—truthfulness, compassion, charity, and especially Viṣṇu-sevā that transforms one’s karmic trajectory.

Primary Rasa: shanta

Secondary Rasa: adbhuta

Visual Art Cues: {"scene_description":"A split tableau: on one side, a figure falls beneath a dark karmic weight; on the other, the same wheel of karma turns luminous, forming a protective aureole around a young prince-like descendant of Ayu. Sūta stands as narrator at the margin, gesturing toward the paradox that karma can both strike and save.","primary_figures":["Sūta","descendant of Ayu (Āyunandana-vaṃśaja)","personified Karma-cakra"],"setting":"A storytelling pavilion at a forest-edge, with the scene unfolding like a vision-scroll in the air.","lighting_mood":"divine radiance","color_palette":["smoky black","saffron gold","pearl white","royal blue","copper"],"tanjore_prompt":"Tanjore painting style: Sūta seated with palm-leaf manuscript, a gold-leaf karma-cakra above splitting into dark and bright halves; the protected Ayu-descendant under a gem-studded golden halo, rich reds/greens, ornate borders, embossed gold for the luminous karmic protection.","pahari_prompt":"Pahari miniature style: narrative diptych with delicate brushwork—left side muted grays showing karmic downfall, right side bright yellows and blues showing karmic protection; Sūta as a refined storyteller figure, Himalayan-like trees and gentle sky gradients.","kerala_mural_prompt":"Kerala mural style: bold outlines, large expressive eyes for Sūta, the karma-cakra as a mandala with alternating dark/light petals, natural pigment palette emphasizing red/yellow/green, temple-wall compositional symmetry.","pichwai_prompt":"Pichwai cloth painting style: circular karma-cakra rendered like a floral mandala, gold detailing on deep blue cloth; narrative figures arranged around the mandala, intricate borders with lotus and vine motifs, devotional textile richness."}

FAQs

It teaches that karma is decisive: harmful karma can bring downfall, and protective merit (puṇya) can also become the cause of protection.

The explicit speaker tag is “Sūta uvāca,” indicating Sūta is speaking at this point in the narration.

“Ayu-nandana” literally means “descendant of Ayu.” The verse does not specify the individual in isolation; it functions as a genealogical epithet whose referent is clarified by the surrounding narrative context.
