FAQs

It declares the tirtha-mahima of the Gaṅgā: immersing a departed person’s bones in her waters is presented as an immediately effective meritorious act that leads to a heavenly abode.

While not a direct bhakti injunction, it reflects Purāṇic devotion through reverence to a sacred embodiment of divine grace (Gaṅgā-tirtha); honoring such tirthas is treated as a dharmic, faith-filled act that yields spiritual upliftment.

It aligns with kalpa/ritual practice (smārta-pitrkarma): the practical rite of asthi-visarjana (consigning remains to sacred water) and the timing/intent (saṅkalpa) implied by “taking that time as the beginning.”
