The Narrative of the Pativrata
veśyānyasmaidadau prītyā yūne kāmaparāyaṇā | tataḥ sa dīnavadano vrīḍayā ca samanvitaḥ || 66 ||
Narada (narrating within the Uttara-Bhaga discourse)
Vrata: none
Primary Rasa: bibhatsa (disgust)
Secondary Rasa: karuna (compassion)
It highlights how indulgence in kāma (sense-pleasure) leads to inner collapse—shown by dejection and vrīḍā (shame)—implying that conscience awakens when one strays from dharma.
By contrast: attachment to pleasure pulls the mind outward, while bhakti requires inward steadiness and restraint; the verse depicts the psychological cost of kama-parāyaṇatā, which bhakti seeks to transcend.
No specific Vedāṅga (like Vyākaraṇa, Jyotiṣa, or Kalpa) is taught directly; the takeaway is practical nīti—guarding conduct (sadācāra) to avoid adharma-driven choices.
