Adhyaya 71 — Madhu-Kaitabha
tad gaccha tvaṃ svadharmeṇa paripālaya medinīm | patnīsahāyaḥ sarvāś ca kuru dharmavatīḥ kriyāḥ ||
Kingship is framed as a dharmic stewardship: protection of the realm and performance of righteous conduct. The explicit mention of the wife as ‘sahāya’ reflects the Purāṇic ideal that household and royal duties are sustained through lawful partnership.
Anucarita within Manvantara: exemplary conduct and instruction embedded in a Manvantara-era story, illustrating dharma in practice.
‘Earth’ (medinī) can signify the embodied field of action; ruling it ‘by svadharma’ indicates mastery of one’s role without envy of another’s path. The wife-as-helper can symbolize śakti supporting dharmic action, though no explicit Devī-form is invoked here.
