नौस्थश्न मां प्रतीक्षेथास्ततो मुनिजनप्रिय । आगमिष्याम्यहं शुद्भी विज्ञेयस्तेन तापस,“मुनिजनोंके प्रेमी तपस्वी नरेश! उस नावमें बैठे रहकर आप मेरी प्रतीक्षा कीजियेगा। मैं आपके पास अपने मस्तकमें सींग धारण किये आऊँगा। उसीसे आप मुझे पहचान लेंगे। इस प्रकार यह सब कार्य आपको करना है। अब मैं आपसे आज्ञा चाहता हूँ और यहाँसे जाता हूँ। उस महान् जलराशिको आपलोग मेरी सहायताके बिना पार नहीं कर सकेंगे
nausthaś ca māṃ pratīkṣethās tato munijanapriya | āgamiṣyāmy ahaṃ śṛṅgī vijñeyas tena tāpasa ||
มารกัณฑยะกล่าวว่า “โอ้ราชาผู้บำเพ็ญตบะ ผู้เป็นที่รักของหมู่มุนี จงนั่งอยู่ในเรือและคอยเรา เราจะกลับมาพร้อมมีเขาอยู่บนศีรษะ ด้วยเครื่องหมายนั้นเจ้าจักรู้ว่าเป็นเรา จงกระทำตามที่กล่าวนี้ บัดนี้เราขอลาและออกไปจากที่นี่—หากปราศจากความช่วยเหลือของเรา พวกเจ้าจะไม่อาจข้ามห้วงน้ำนั้นอันกว้างใหญ่ได้”
