एकवेदस्य चाज्ञानाद् वेदास्ते बहव: कृता: । सत्त्वस्य चेह विश्रंशात् सत्ये कश्चिदवस्थित:,द्वापरमें सम्पूर्ण एक वेदका भी ज्ञान न होनेसे वेदके बहुत-से विभाग कर लिये गये हैं। इस युगमें सात्त्विक बुद्धिका क्षय होनेसे कोई विरला ही सत्यमें स्थित होता है
ekavedasya cājñānād vedās te bahavaḥ kṛtāḥ | sattvasya ceha viśraṃśāt satye kaścid avasthitaḥ ||
เพราะมิได้รู้แจ้งเวทอันเดียวโดยสมบูรณ์ เวทนั้นจึงถูกแบ่งเป็นเวทมากมาย และในยุคนี้เมื่อสัทตวะเสื่อมถอย ผู้ที่ตั้งมั่นอยู่ในสัจจะย่อมมีเพียงผู้เดียวที่หาได้ยากยิ่ง
