Educational Q&A

The verse models dhārmic learning: a righteous king seeks moral exemplars by respectfully questioning a qualified sage. It also highlights that true fame (satyakīrti) and unmatched valor are meaningful when grounded in wisdom and worthy conduct.

Yudhiṣṭhira requests the sage to narrate the celebrated life of King Māndhātṛ—specifically the origin of his name and the circumstances of his birth—praising the sage as blameless and skilled in narration.
