Educational Q&A

The verse highlights the dharmic interplay of personal agency and ritual means: the promised outcome (a worthy son) is to be achieved both through one’s own action (“by yourself”) and through a properly conducted iṣṭi, underscoring the traditional view that righteous ends are pursued via sanctioned rites and disciplined conduct.

Lomaśa, speaking as an authoritative sage, assures the listener that a son of the desired type will be born from the indicated wives, and he further promises that ‘we’ (the sages/ritual experts) will conduct an extraordinary iṣṭi-sacrifice to facilitate that boon.
