Educational Q&A

The verse highlights the epic’s ethical attention to ‘nimitta’—signs interpreted around major decisions. It frames Kṛṣṇa’s mission as morally weighty and historically consequential, inviting reflection on how leaders read circumstances, seek counsel, and act responsibly amid uncertainty.

Janamejaya asks how Kṛṣṇa (Madhusūdana), described as the great-souled hero of the Dāśārha line, began his journey and what omens—favorable or unfavorable—were seen at the time of his departure, setting up a detailed account of the departure and its portents.
