Udyoga Parva — Gandhārī’s Counsel to Duryodhana
devāsura-manuṣyāś ca gandharvoraga-rākṣasāḥ | asmin yuddhe susaṃkruddhā haniṣyanti parasparam ||
When rage governs a conflict, it becomes indiscriminate and self-consuming: all sides and even multiple orders of beings are driven toward mutual slaughter. The verse highlights the ethical danger of anger as a force that erodes restraint (dharma) and multiplies suffering.
Vaiśaṃpāyana describes a war scenario in which Devas, Asuras, humans, Gandharvas, Nāgas, and Rākṣasas, inflamed with fury, engage in reciprocal killing. It functions as a grim illustration of how war escalates into universal, mutual destruction.
