The verse highlights the ethical weight of obligations—especially those connected with the guru—and presents seeking refuge from a capable protector as a dharmic response when one is genuinely unable to fulfil a duty.
Nārada explains that an eminent Brahmin (in this episode, Gālava) is overwhelmed by sorrow because he cannot complete the required obligation (guru-dakṣiṇā) and therefore approaches the addressed person for protection and help.
