जातिं देशं च सत्यं च माहात्म्यं भरतर्षभ | धर्म वृत्ति च विज्ञाय क्षत्रियाणां नराधिप

Transliteration

jātiṃ deśaṃ ca satyaṃ ca māhātmyaṃ bharatarṣabha | dharmavṛttiṃ ca vijñāya kṣatriyāṇāṃ narādhipa rājan bharataśreṣṭha ||

Translation

ไวศัมปายนะกล่าวว่า— “ข้าแต่พระราชา ผู้ประเสริฐแห่งวงศ์ภารตะ! ครั้นมหาภารตะกถาเริ่มแล้ว ในแต่ละปัรวะ เมื่อพิจารณาให้รู้ชัดถึงวงศ์สกุลและถิ่นแดน ความสัตย์และความยิ่งใหญ่ ตลอดจนธรรมะและจารีตประพฤติของกษัตริย์แล้ว บัดนี้เราจักพรรณนาว่า ควรถวายสิ่งใดแก่พราหมณ์ทั้งหลายในแต่ละปัรวะ.”
