Educational Q&A

In the face of major losses—wealth or the death of close family—one should not merely lament, but turn the insight ‘life is suffused with suffering’ into disciplined practice that reduces grief, cultivating restraint and steadiness of mind.

In the Shanti Parva’s instruction on dharma and inner peace, Bhishma advises the listener on how to respond to bereavement and misfortune: acknowledge the reality of suffering and actively practice methods that lessen sorrow rather than amplifying it through rumination.
