Daṇḍotpatti-kathana (Origin and Function of Daṇḍa) — वसुहोम–मान्धातृ संवाद
भर्तप्रत्यय उत्पन्नो व्यवहारस्तथापर: । तस्माद् यः स हितो दृष्टो भर्तप्रत्ययलक्षण:
bhartapratyaya utpanno vyavahāras tathāparaḥ | tasmād yaḥ sa hito dṛṣṭo bhartapratyayalakṣaṇaḥ ||
ภีษมะกล่าวว่า—ยังมีวิถีแห่งการพิจารณาคดีที่เกิดจากความไว้วางใจต่อเจ้านาย/ผู้มีอำนาจ ซึ่งแตกต่างจากวิธีที่เกิดจากข้อพิพาทระหว่างโจทก์และจำเลย เพราะฉะนั้น คำตัดสินหรือทัณฑะที่ให้โดยอาศัยความเชื่อถือเช่นนั้น เรียกว่าแบบ ‘ภรรตฤ-ประตยะ-ลักษณะ’ และถือกันว่าเป็นประโยชน์เกื้อกูลแก่สรรพโลก.
