शल्यस्य सेनापत्याभ्युपगमः | Śalya’s Acceptance of Command
न तु सन्धिमहं मन्ये प्राप्तकालं कथडठ्चन । “आपने स्नेहवश हितकी ही बात कही है। आपकी इस बातमें मैं दोष नहीं निकालता और न इसकी निन्दा ही करता हूँ। मेरा कथन तो इतना ही है कि अब किसी प्रकार सन्धिका अवसर नहीं रह गया है। मेरी ऐसी ही मान्यता है
na tu sandhim ahaṃ manye prāptakālaṃ kathaṃcana |
แต่บัดนี้ข้าพเจ้าไม่เห็นว่าการทำสัญญาสงบศึกจะเป็นไปได้ไม่ว่าด้วยวิธีใด เพราะกาลอันชี้ขาดได้มาถึงแล้ว ท่านกล่าวถ้อยคำอันเป็นประโยชน์ด้วยความเอ็นดู ข้าพเจ้าไม่ติเตียนและไม่กล่าวโทษถ้อยคำนั้น ข้าพเจ้าขอกล่าวเพียงว่า โอกาสแห่งการปรองดองได้ล่วงเลยไปแล้ว
