धृतराष्ट्रविलापः — Dhṛtarāṣṭra’s Lament and Inquiry (Śalya-parva, Adhyāya 2)
कर्ण एको मया सार्ध निहनिष्यति पाण्डवान्
karṇa eko mayā sārdhaṁ nihaniṣyati pāṇḍavān
“กรรณะเพียงผู้เดียว เมื่อรบเคียงข้างเรา จักทำลายเหล่าปาณฑพให้สิ้น”
धघतयाट्र उवाच
The verse highlights how attachment and partiality can distort judgment: Dhṛtarāṣṭra’s hope that Karṇa will annihilate the Pāṇḍavas reflects a king’s clinging to victory for his side rather than clear-sighted concern for dharma and the human cost of war.
In the Shalya Parva context, Dhṛtarāṣṭra speaks about the war’s prospects and expresses confidence in Karṇa’s prowess, imagining that Karṇa, with his backing, will destroy the Pāṇḍavas.
