त॑ चिन्तयानमासीन धृतराष्ट्र जनेश्वरम् । निःश्वसन्तमनेकाग्रमिति होवाच संजय:,महाराज धुृतराष्ट्रको लंबी साँस खींचते और उद्विग्नचित्त होकर चिन्तामें डूबे हुए देख संजयने इस प्रकार कहा
taṁ cintayānam āsīnaṁ dhṛtarāṣṭraṁ janeśvaram | niḥśvasantam anekāgram iti hovāca sañjayaḥ ||
ครั้นสัญชัยเห็นพระเจ้าธฤตราษฏระ ผู้เป็นเจ้าแห่งหมู่ชน ประทับนั่งจมอยู่ในความคิดกังวล ถอนพระทัยยาว ๆ และไม่อาจทำพระทัยให้แน่วแน่ได้ จึงกราบทูลดังนี้
