Karṇa’s Pressure on the Pāñcālas; Duryodhana Disabled; Arjuna’s Counter-Advance
jāto 'haṃ yajvanāṃ vaṃśe saṃgrāmeṣv anivartinām | rājñāṃ mūrdhābhiṣiktānāṃ svayaṃ dharmaparāyaṇaḥ ||

The verse asserts an ethical identity grounded in dharma and inherited duty: noble birth is framed not as pride alone but as an obligation—steadfastness in battle and commitment to righteous conduct, supported by the ideal of kingship sanctified through consecration and sacrifice.
In the Karṇa Parva war setting, the speaker declares his pedigree and principles: he comes from a line of sacrificial, consecrated rulers who do not retreat in combat, and he presents himself as personally devoted to dharma—setting the moral tone for the choices and actions that follow.
