Yayāti–Devayānī Dialogue and Śukra’s Consent
वैशम्पायन उवाच सुरापानाद् वज्चनां प्राप्य विद्वान् संज्ञानाशं चैव महातिघोरम् | दृष्टवा कचं चापि तथाभिरूपं पीत॑ तदा सुरया मोहितेन
vaiśampāyana uvāca
surāpānād vacanāṁ prāpya vidvān saṁjñānāśaṁ caiva mahāti-ghoram |
dṛṣṭvā kacaṁ cāpi tathābhirūpaṁ pītaṁ tadā surayā mohitena ||
ไวศัมปายนกล่าวว่า—โอ้ชนเมชยะ! เพราะตกอยู่ในโทษแห่งการดื่มสุรา ผู้รู้คือศุกราจารย์จึงถูกล่อลวงจนถึงสภาพอันน่าสะพรึง—สิ้นสติสัมปชัญญะ และด้วยความหลงใหลในสุรา ณ เวลานั้นเอง เขายังกลืนกัจจะ ศิษย์พราหมณ์ผู้รูปงามและเป็นที่รัก ผู้ประพฤติตามใจครูอยู่เสมอ ลงไปด้วย
