Educational Q&A

Learning is not merely acquisition of information; it carries an ethical obligation of reverence and gratitude toward the guru who transmits sacred knowledge. Disrespect to such a teacher is treated as a grave adharma leading to loss of honor and painful karmic results.

Vaiśampāyana delivers a moral injunction within the Adi Parva’s didactic context: he warns that students who have gained knowledge but fail to honor their worthy preceptor fall from social and spiritual standing and are said to reach sinful realms.
