Garuḍa, the Brāhmaṇa’s Release, and Kaśyapa’s Counsel
Gajakacchapa-ākhyāna Prelude
tataḥ kadācid vinatāṃ praṇatāṃ putra-sannidhau | kāle cāhūya vacanaṃ kadrūridam abhāṣata ||
The verse highlights how speech delivered 'at the proper time' (kāle) can shape moral outcomes, especially within unequal relationships. It implicitly warns that deference and proximity to loved ones can be leveraged by the powerful, making discernment and ethical vigilance necessary.
Kadrū calls Vinatā—who is shown as respectful and seated near her son—and begins to address her. This is a narrative setup: Kadrū is about to make a consequential proposal/request that will affect Vinatā and her family line.
