Educational Q&A

The verse underscores acceptance of inevitable outcomes and the ethical response of restraint and propriety—taking leave and returning without agitation—highlighting impermanence and non-attachment.

A mouse is devoured by a hawk; after this event, the narrator (speaking in the first person within the reported story) takes permission from the relevant party and returns home.
