Educational Q&A

The verse emphasizes moral causality: beings reap the results of their own karma. Even when events are foretold as inevitable, the return to heavenly realms is framed as the fruit of one’s own meritorious deeds, and the foretold tasks are presented as obligations that must unfold within a larger, multi-purpose cosmic order.

Vyāsa delivers a prophetic assurance: after undergoing a necessary course of actions in the human realm, the addressed beings will return to Indra’s heaven, which they had already earned through prior merit. He also indicates that beyond what he has explicitly stated, further deeds serving diverse ends will be accomplished.
