Educational Q&A

The verse foregrounds dharma as an active moral concern: Kuntī’s immediate response is not personal gain but anxiety about right conduct. Ethical deliberation (paricintā) precedes speech and action, showing that dharma requires mindful reflection, especially in complex family situations.

After Draupadī’s arrival, she is described as highly pleased, while Kuntī becomes worried that something improper may occur. Kuntī takes Draupadī by the hand, goes to Yudhiṣṭhira, and begins to address him—setting up the ensuing decision about how the family will act.
