Educational Q&A

The verse foregrounds decorum (maryādā) and auspicious order in public rites: even competitive royal gatherings are to be conducted with disciplined seating, proper spatial planning, and respect for ceremonial norms.

Vaiśampāyana describes the physical arrangement of the svayaṃvara venue: the kings sit in an orderly manner in a dolphin-shaped layout, and the assembly enclosure—set on level, auspicious ground to the city’s north-east—appears splendid, surrounded by buildings.
