Educational Q&A

A ruler’s pursuit of prosperity and security should be guided by dharma: appoint a virtuous, qualified Brahmin as purohita so that acquisition and protection of wealth proceed through right counsel, disciplined conduct, and proper rites rather than reckless ambition.

A Gandharva speaks a normative instruction about royal policy: for both gaining what is lacking and safeguarding what is gained, the king is advised to establish a competent, virtuous purohita as an essential adviser and moral anchor in governance.
