सो हं त्वयेह विजित: संख्ये तापत्यवर्धन । येन तेनेह विधिना कीर्त्यमानं निबोध मे,तपतीके कुलकी वृद्धि करनेवाले अर्जुन] आपने जिस कारण युद्धमें मुझे पराजित किया है, उसे (भी) बतलाता हूँ; सुनिये
so 'haṁ tvayehā vijitaḥ saṅkhye tāpatyavardhana | yena tena iha vidhinā kīrtyamānaṁ nibodha me ||
คนธรรพกล่าวว่า “ในสนามรบนี้ ข้าพ่ายแพ้แก่ท่าน โอ้ อรชุน ผู้เพิ่มพูนเกียรติแห่งวงศ์ทาปตี เหตุที่ท่านมีชัยเหนือข้า ณ ที่นี้ ข้าจะกล่าวให้ฟังตามลำดับ—จงตั้งใจฟัง”
गन्धर्व उवाच
Even in conflict, the defeated party can respond with clarity and restraint: acknowledging defeat, honoring the victor, and explaining the causal factors behind success. The verse frames victory as something that can be accounted for through discernible reasons and proper order (vidhi), not merely boast or chance.
A Gandharva addresses Arjuna after being overcome in battle. He openly admits defeat and then announces that he will explain the reason Arjuna was able to conquer him, asking Arjuna to listen as he narrates it methodically.
