गन्धर्व उवाच अनग्नयो<नाहुतयो न च विप्रपुरस्कृता: । यूयं ततो धर्षिता: स्थ मया वै पाण्डुनन्दना:,गन्धर्व बोला--पाण्डुकुमारो! आपलोग (विवाहित न होनेके कारण) त्रिविध अग्नियोंकी सेवा नहीं करते। (अध्ययन पूरा करके समावर्तन संस्कारसे सम्पन्न हो गये हैं, अतः) प्रतिदिन अग्निको आहुति भी नहीं देते। आपके आगे कोई ब्राह्मण पुरोहित भी नहीं है। इन्हीं कारणोंसे मैंने आपपर आक्रमण किया है

gandharva uvāca | anagnayo 'nāhutayo na ca viprapuraskṛtāḥ | yūyaṃ tato dharṣitāḥ stha mayā vai pāṇḍunandanāḥ ||

คันธรรพกล่าวว่า “โอ บุตรแห่งปาณฑุทั้งหลาย พวกท่านไร้ไฟศักดิ์สิทธิ์ มิได้ถวายอาหุติเป็นนิตย์ และไม่มีพราหมณ์ปุโรหิตนำหน้าเป็นผู้ประกอบพิธี ด้วยเหตุนี้เองข้าจึงดูหมิ่นและเข้าทำร้ายพวกท่าน”
