संस्तम्भयित्वा तरसा जितं शरणमागतम्‌ । यो रिपुं योजयेत्‌ प्राण: कल्याणं कि न सो5हति,जिन्होंने अपने वेगसे शत्रुकी शक्तिको कुण्ठित करके उसपर विजय पायी और फिर जब वह शत्रु शरणमें आ गया, तब जो उसे प्राणदान दे रहे हैं, वे किस कल्याणकी प्राप्तिके अधिकारी नहीं है?

saṃstambhayitvā tarasā jitaṃ śaraṇam āgatam | yo ripuṃ yojayet prāṇaiḥ kalyāṇaṃ kiṃ na so 'rhati ||

ผู้ใดใช้กำลังอันฉับพลันสกัดอำนาจศัตรูจนมีชัย แล้วเมื่อศัตรูนั้นกลับมาขอพึ่งเป็นผู้ลี้ภัย หากผู้นั้นยังประทานชีวิตแก่เขา—บุคคลเช่นนั้นจะไม่สมควรได้รับกุศลและสิริมงคลประการใดเล่า?
