Educational Q&A

A person who seeks refuge (śaraṇa-prāptā) invokes a moral claim upon the strong: protection should be granted, and coercion or captivity should be relinquished. The verse highlights compassion and restraint as aspects of dharma.

A Gandharvī named Kumbhīnasī speaks as a supplicant, asking an addressed ‘lord’ to protect her and to release her husband, indicating that the husband is being held or restrained in the ongoing episode.
