आरात्‌ तिष्ठत मा महां समीपमुपसर्पत । कस्मान्मां नाभिजानीत प्राप्त भागीरथीजलम्‌,“अरे, ओ मनुष्यो! दूर ही खड़े रहो। मेरे समीप न आना। तुम्हें ज्ञात कैसे नहीं हुआ कि मैं गन्धर्वराज अंगारपर्ण गंगाजीके जलमें उतरा हुआ हूँ। तुमलोग मुझे (अच्छी तरह) जान लो, मैं अपने ही बलका भरोसा करनेवाला स्वाभिमानी, ईर्ष्यालु तथा कुबेरका प्रिय मित्र हूँ

ārāt tiṣṭhata mā māṁ samīpam upasarpata | kasmān māṁ nābhijānīta prāpta-bhāgīrathī-jalam |

ไวศัมปายนะกล่าวว่า: “จงถอยไปยืนให้ห่าง อย่าเข้ามาใกล้เรา เหตุใดพวกเจ้าจึงไม่รู้จักเรา ทั้งที่เราได้ลงสู่สายน้ำภาคีรถี (คงคา) แล้ว?”
