Saṃvaraṇa’s Petition and Tapatī’s Conditioned Consent (सम्वरण-तपती संवादः)

एकस्तव सुतो बाल: कन्या चैका तपस्विनी । न चैतयोस्तथा पत्न्या गमनं तव रोचये,आपके तो एक ही नन्‍्हा-सा पुत्र और एक ही तपस्विनी कन्या है, अतः इन दोनोंका तथा आपकी पत्नीका भी वहाँ जाना मुझे अच्छा नहीं लगता

ekas tava suto bālaḥ kanyā caikā tapasvinī | na caitayos tathā patnyā gamanaṁ tava rocaye ||

ท่านมีบุตรชายตัวน้อยเพียงคนเดียว และธิดาผู้บำเพ็ญตบะเพียงคนเดียว; เพราะฉะนั้น ข้าไม่เห็นชอบให้ท่านไปที่นั่น ทั้งไม่เห็นชอบให้พาเด็กทั้งสองและภรรยาของท่านไปด้วย

The verse emphasizes prudent dharma: when one has only a single, vulnerable set of dependents (a young son, an ascetic daughter, and a wife), one should avoid exposing them to unnecessary danger. Ethical responsibility includes safeguarding those entrusted to one’s care.
