अड्कुशं शौचमित्याहुरर्थानामुपधारणे । आनाम्य फलितां शाखां पक्‍वं पक्‍वं॑ प्रशातयेत्‌,'कार्यसिद्धिके लिये शौच-सदाचार आदिका पालन एक प्रकारका अंकुश (लोगोंको आकृष्ट करनेका साधन) बताया गया है। फलोंसे लदी हुई वृक्षकी शाखाको अपनी ओर कुछ झुकाकर ही मनुष्य उसके पके-पके फलको तोड़े

aṅkuśaṃ śaucam ity āhur arthānām upadhāraṇe | ānamya phalitāṃ śākhāṃ pakvaṃ pakvaṃ praśātayet ||

ท่านกล่าวว่า “ความบริสุทธิ์”—คือความประพฤติสะอาดและการสำรวมตน—เป็นดุจตะขอช้างที่คุมและนำพาให้ได้มาและรักษาไว้ซึ่งประโยชน์และทรัพย์. ดุจคนโน้มกิ่งที่อุ้มผลเข้าหาตนแล้วเด็ดผลสุกทีละผล ฉันใด ความประพฤติดีอันมีวินัยก็ฉุดความสำเร็จให้มาอยู่ในเอื้อมมือฉันนั้น.
