Droṇa’s Ācārya-Dakṣiṇā: Capture of Drupada and Division of Pāñcāla (द्रोण-आचार्यदक्षिणा)
न्यवेदयंस्तत् पुरुषा धार्तराष्ट्राय वै तदा । ततो दुर्योधनस्तत्र पाण्डवानाह दुर्मति:,तदनन्तर राजपुरुषोंने दुर्योधनको सूचना दी कि “सब तैयारी पूरी हो गयी है।' तब खोटी बुद्धिवाले दुर्योधनने पाण्डवोंसे कहा--
nyavedayaṁs tat puruṣā dhārtarāṣṭrāya vai tadā | tato duryodhanas tatra pāṇḍavān āha durmatiḥ ||
ครั้นนั้น ข้าราชบริพารได้กราบทูลเรื่องนั้นแก่ทุรโยธนะ โอรสแห่งธฤตราษฏระ แล้วทุรโยธนะผู้มีความคิดคดก็กล่าวแก่เหล่าปาณฑพว่า—
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights how wrongdoing often proceeds through seemingly proper procedures: reports are made, permissions implied, and then a malicious actor acts. The ethical warning is that institutional formality does not guarantee dharmic intent; the moral quality depends on the mind (mati) directing the action.
Royal attendants inform Dhṛtarāṣṭra that the relevant arrangements are in place. Immediately after this report, Duryodhana—described as durmati—turns to address the Pāṇḍavas, signaling the unfolding of his plan against them within the courtly setting.
