पाण्डोः श्राद्धं, सत्यवत्याः वनगमनम्, बाल्यस्पर्धा च

तस्याद्य व्यसने बुद्धि: संजातेयं ममाधमा । त्यक्तस्य देवैरनयान्मृगयां परिधावत:,मैं शिकारके पीछे दौड़ता रहता हूँ; मेरी इसी अनीतिके कारण जान पड़ता है देवताओंने मुझे त्याग दिया है। इसीलिये तो ऐसे विशुद्ध वंशमें उत्पन्न होनेपर भी आज व्यसनमें फँसकर मेरी यह बुद्धि इतनी नीच हो गयी

tasyādya vyasane buddhiḥ saṃjāteyaṃ mamādhamā | tyaktasya devair anayān mṛgayāṃ paridhāvataḥ ||

วันนี้ปัญญาของข้าพเจ้าตกอยู่ในอบายมุขจนต่ำทราม ด้วยความประพฤติอันมิชอบนี้—การวิ่งไล่ตามการล่า—ดูประหนึ่งว่าเหล่าเทวะได้ทอดทิ้งข้าพเจ้าแล้ว ฉะนั้นแม้เกิดในวงศ์อันบริสุทธิ์ บัดนี้กลับติดพันในความหลงใหลจนความเข้าใจเสื่อมทรามถึงเพียงนี้
