वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse links righteous kingship with righteous household life: one should accept legitimate authority through consecration, govern the people with discipline, and enter marriage according to dharma so that lineage and ancestral obligations (pitṛ-kārya) are not neglected.
Within Vaiśampāyana’s narration, an elder’s counsel is being conveyed: the addressee is urged to assume the throne formally, rule the Bhāratas responsibly, and marry lawfully—framing these as duties whose neglect would harm the ancestors and the continuity of the family line.
