यदपत्यं महाप्राज्ञ तत्र मे नास्ति संशय: । एषा त्रयीपुराणानां देवतानां च शाश्वती,(अपत्यं कर्म विद्या च त्रीणि ज्योतींषि भारत । यदिदं कारणं तात सर्वमाख्यातमञ्जसा ।।) “भारत! महाप्राज्ञ! इस बातमें मुझे तनिक भी संदेह नहीं है कि संतान, कर्म और विद्या --ये तीन ज्योतियाँ हैं; इनमें भी जो संतान है, उसका महत्त्व सबसे अधिक है। यही वेदत्रयी पुराण तथा देवताओंका भी सनातन मत है। तात! मेरी चिन्ताका जो कारण है, वह सब तुम्हें स्पष्ट बता दिया

Vaiśampāyana uvāca: yad apatyaṃ mahāprājña tatra me nāsti saṃśayaḥ | eṣā trayīpurāṇānāṃ devatānāṃ ca śāśvatī || (apatyaṃ karma vidyā ca trīṇi jyotīṃṣi bhārata | yad idaṃ kāraṇaṃ tāta sarvam ākhyātam añjasā ||)

ไวศัมปายนะกล่าวว่า “โอ้ผู้ทรงปัญญายิ่ง ข้าหามีความสงสัยไม่เลยว่า ‘บุตรสืบสกุล’ นั้นสำคัญยิ่งที่สุด นี่คือความเชื่ออันเป็นนิตย์ที่ไตรเวท ปุราณะ และเหล่าเทพยึดถือ ‘โอ้ภารตะ บุตรสืบสกุล กรรมอันชอบธรรม และวิทยา เป็นแสงสว่างสามประการ; ในบรรดานั้น บุตรสืบสกุลเป็นประธาน’ ลูกเอ๋ย เหตุแห่งความกังวลของข้า ข้าได้บอกแก่เจ้าชัดแจ้งทั้งหมดแล้ว”
