The verse highlights the ideal of inherited and cultivated excellence: noble birth is affirmed not merely by lineage but by matching virtues—right conduct (ācāra), steady character (vṛtta), and learning (śruta)—suggesting that ethical formation and education are central to rightful kingship.
Vaiśampāyana describes the birth and qualities of Devavrata, the son of Gaṅgā, emphasizing that he resembled his father in appearance and virtues and was also regarded as a Vasu-incarnation, foreshadowing his extraordinary role in the Kuru lineage.
