Commencement of the Upari-bhāga: The Sages Request Brahma-vidyā; Vyāsa Recalls the Badarikā Inquiry and Śiva–Viṣṇu Theophany

विज्ञाय वाञ्छितं तेषां भगवानपि सर्ववित् / प्राह गम्भीरया वाचा किमर्थं तप्यते तपः

vijñāya vāñchitaṃ teṣāṃ bhagavānapi sarvavit / prāha gambhīrayā vācā kimarthaṃ tapyate tapaḥ
