The Appearance of Śrī Nārada and Vyāsa’s Dissatisfaction
Veda-vibhāga and the Need for Bhakti
किं वा भागवता धर्मा न प्रायेण निरूपिता: । प्रिया: परमहंसानां त एव ह्यच्युतप्रिया: ॥ ३१ ॥
kiṁ vā bhāgavatā dharmā na prāyeṇa nirūpitāḥ priyāḥ paramahaṁsānāṁ ta eva hy acyuta-priyāḥ
The dissatisfaction which was being felt by Śrīla Vyāsadeva is expressed herein in his own words. This was felt for the normal condition of the living being in the devotional service of the Lord. Unless one is fixed in the normal condition of service, neither the Lord nor the living being can become fully satisfied. This defect was felt by him when Nārada Muni, his spiritual master, reached him. It is described as follows.
This verse affirms that bhāgavata-dharma—devotional principles centered on the Lord—has been thoroughly explained and is cherished by the highest devotees because it is beloved to Acyuta (Kṛṣṇa) Himself.
Sūta indicates that the essence of the narration is pure devotion; therefore the paramahaṁsas—those beyond material motives—naturally relish it, since it directly pleases the Lord.
Prioritize practices that cultivate devotion—hearing and studying Śrīmad Bhāgavatam, chanting, and living by its values—because what pleases the Lord is also what elevates the heart beyond anxiety and ego.
