Kṛṣṇa’s Queens, Their Sons, and Balarāma’s Victory over Rukmī at Dice
Aniruddha–Rocanā Marriage Context
eteṣāṁ putra-pautrāś ca babhūvuḥ koṭiśo nṛpa mātaraḥ kṛṣṇa-jātīnāṁ sahasrāṇi ca ṣoḍaśa
This verse states that from Kṛṣṇa’s queens came sons and grandsons in vast numbers (koṭiśaḥ), and that the mothers of His dynastic descendants were sixteen thousand—indicating the extraordinary expansion of His Dvārakā pastimes.
Śukadeva describes Kṛṣṇa’s family expansion to portray the opulence and divine potency of the Lord’s Dvārakā-līlā, and to ground the narrative of the Yadu dynasty in concrete details for Parīkṣit.
The verse reminds a devotee that the Lord’s capacity is unlimited; cultivating faith in Bhagavān’s inconceivable power helps one remain steady in bhakti even when divine actions appear beyond ordinary logic.
