Vidya Category: {"primary_vidya":"Mantra","secondary_vidya":"Tantra","practical_application":"Directional-guardian (lokapāla) offerings using mantra for Vidyā–Śiva tattvas; preparation of tamra-kumbhas with ghṛta, madhu, ratna, and pañcagavya/arghya sprinkling as upacāra for śānti and protection.","sutra_style":false}

Encyclopedic Reference: {"reference_type":"Procedure","entry_title":"Lokapāla Upacāra: Tamra-kumbha Offerings with Ghṛta–Madhu–Ratna and Pañcagavya","lookup_keywords":["lokapāla","tamra-kumbha","ghṛta-madhu","pañcagavya","arghya"],"quick_summary":"Recite the Vidyā–Śiva tattva mantra and offer copper pitchers filled with ghee and honey, adorned with gems, and sprinkled with arghya and pañcagavya essence to the lokapāla presiding deities for śānti and directional protection."}

Concept: Cosmic order through directions: honoring lokapālas aligns the rite with dik (space) and establishes protective harmony; material offerings embody sattvic consolidation (ghṛta/madhu/pañcagavya).

Application: In consecrations and major pūjās, prepare directionally placed kumbhas with prescribed pure substances and invoke guardians to stabilize the ritual field (kṣetra) and avert obstacles.

Khanda Section: Puja-vidhi (Tantric mantra and offering procedure)

Primary Rasa: shanta

Secondary Rasa: adbhuta

Visual Art Cues: {"scene_description":"Eight or ten copper pitchers are arranged by directions around an altar, filled with ghee and honey, topped/adorned with gems, sprinkled with arghya and pañcagavya; the priest recites the Vidyā–Śiva tattva mantra to honor lokapālas.","kerala_mural_prompt":"Kerala mural, circular mandala with directional kumbhas, copper sheen rendered in earthy tones, priest chanting, lokapālas hinted as guardian figures at compass points, lamps and floral borders","tanjore_prompt":"Tanjore painting, brilliant gold work on kumbhas and jewelry, directional arrangement around deity altar, gems sparkling, priest offering arghya, rich temple arch and ornamental motifs","mysore_prompt":"Mysore style, precise diagrammatic placement of kumbhas by directions, labels for contents (ghṛta, madhu, pañcagavya), priest reciting mantra, clean and elegant composition","mughal_miniature_prompt":"Mughal miniature, top-down courtyard view with symmetrical directional vessels, attendants holding trays of gems and arghya, fine detailing of copper texture and ritual implements"}

Audio Atmosphere: {"recitation_mood":"devotional","suggested_raga":"Kedar","pace":"medium","voice_tone":"devotional"}

Sandhi Resolution Notes:

FAQs

It gives a specific mantra-salutation to Vidyā-tattva and Śiva-tattva and prescribes the material setup for worship: copper pitchers filled with ghee and honey, gem-adorned, and ritually sprinkled with pañcagavya and arghya-mixture for offerings to the directional guardians’ presiding deities.

It exemplifies the text’s practical ritual-technology: combining mantra (bīja syllables and tattva-salutation) with precise dravya (substances like ghee, honey, pañcagavya), vessels (tāmra-kumbha), and deity-targeting (Lokapālas and their adhidevatās), showing the Purana’s manual-like coverage of worship procedure.

The instruction frames offerings as a purified, directionally complete worship—honoring the cosmic order guarded by the Lokapālas—where sanctified substances (pañcagavya, arghya) and mantra together are intended to remove ritual impurity, secure protection from directional obstacles, and accrue merit through orderly devotion.
