Lord Agni (teaching the sage Vasiṣṭha in the Agni Purana’s instructional dialogue style)

Vidya Category: {"primary_vidya":"Tantra","secondary_vidya":"Mantra","practical_application":"Guidance for mantra-nyāsa/āvāhana with attention to textual variants; outlines intended ritual fruits (deha-sampat, adhikāra, bhoga, laya) and purifications (śrotas-śuddhi, tattva-viśodhana).","sutra_style":false}

Encyclopedic Reference: {"reference_type":"Commentary","entry_title":"Variant Reading: ‘buddha’ vs ‘āvāhana’; Ritual Fruits and Purifications","lookup_keywords":["āvāhana","pāṭhabheda","śrotas-śuddhi","tattva-viśodhana","laya"],"quick_summary":"The passage notes manuscript variants and then states the rite’s aims: bodily flourishing, confirmation of eligibility, enjoyment and dissolution, plus purification of channels and cleansing of tattvas."}

Concept: Ritual efficacy depends on correct prayoga (including correct reading/wording) and on inner purification: śrotas-śuddhi and tattva-viśodhana culminating in bhoga and laya.

Application: When performing āvāhana/nyāsa, ensure mantra-text accuracy (resolve pāṭhabheda via guru/paramparā) and pair outer acts with inner cleansing disciplines to align ‘tattvas’ and stabilize laya.

Khanda Section: Puja-vidhi (Mantra-nyasa, Avahana, and ritual purifications)

Primary Rasa: shanta

Secondary Rasa: adbhuta

Visual Art Cues: {"scene_description":"A ritual teacher comparing two palm-leaf manuscripts (variant readings) while a disciple prepares for āvāhana; behind them, a subtle-body diagram indicates śrotas purification and tattva cleansing leading to bhoga and laya.","kerala_mural_prompt":"Kerala mural, guru and śiṣya in temple corridor, palm-leaf manuscripts with highlighted variant words, stylized subtle channels drawn as white lines on a faint human silhouette, calm sacred ambiance.","tanjore_prompt":"Tanjore style, guru holding manuscript, disciple with añjali, gold detailing on manuscript edges and halo, symbolic icons for bhoga (lotus, prosperity) and laya (dissolving light) in the background.","mysore_prompt":"Mysore painting, didactic composition: two manuscript readings shown in inset panels, central āvāhana gesture, labeled śrotas and tattvas in a neat schematic, soft colors and precise outlines.","mughal_miniature_prompt":"Mughal miniature, scholars in a library-like setting, palm-leaf folios, marginal notes indicating variant reading, a translucent figure with channels in the background, refined architectural details."}

FAQs

It highlights āvāhana (formal invocation) as a key ritual act and links the rite’s outcomes to both ritual-psychic goals (bhoga and laya) and technical purification aims—śrotas-śuddhi (channel cleansing) and tattva-viśodhana (purifying elemental principles).

The verse blends pūjā/tantric procedure (āvāhana) with Ayurvedic physiology (śrotas) and metaphysical categories (tattvas), showing how the Agni Purana integrates ritual practice, health-science terminology, and philosophical purification in one instruction.

By prescribing invocation alongside purification of channels and principles, it frames worship as transformative: it supports worldly well-being (deha-sampatti, bhoga) while also enabling inner resolution/absorption (laya), implying merit through disciplined, purifying practice.
